Place two cones 2-3 yards off each goalpost on the end line. These will be the defensive cones. Have the players divide evenly between the four cones and form lines behind each cone. All the soccer balls should be divided between the two defensive lines on the end line.

All of the soccer balls should be placed near the mini-goals. Play four, five-minute games. Adjust the duration of the activity to fit training needs. Rest and make coaching points between games.
1. 4-4-2 Formation. The 4-4-2 is the ‘standard’ soccer formation. This formation requires two centre midfielders who contribute on both ends of the pitch, creative wingers to generate goal scoring opportunities, and incredibly fit fullbacks.
In a 4-4-2 formation, some teams play with a support striker or number 10 off of the main target man or speedy striker. It almost ends up as a 4-4-1-1 formation as the other striker drops off into the hole and uses their creative skills to bring others into play around them.
When attacking, it can quickly change to a 4-3-3 formation. In this scenario, the two wide forwards push up on either side of the striker to form a front three. The central attacking midfielder then forms a central trio with the other two midfielders. Another alternative is to revert to a 4-4-2 formation.
